- About us -

Founded by Ms. Dawn Simmons, MSW, Brighter Tomorrows Today, Inc. (“BTT”) is a US 501c3 charitable nonprofit that assists rural and economically depressed communities in the US and Ghana. BTT provides charitable services, by partnering with individuals and organizations to provide clean drinking water, school supplies, Female Empowerment; as well as offering in-house programs such as English Language, Basic Computer Literacy, Educational Scholarships, professional etiquette skills and a youth soccer program.
The organization started in November 2000, in Nkenkaasu, when Dawn Simmons, the founder, came from the US to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. created an informal English school with 60-80 children and 3 teachers and purchased land to have a community program. In 2011, the organization, BTT, was officially established and in 2021, the school building was completed and open for classes with 30+ students, now currently 80+ students, and growing. Students pay GHS 15/month ($1.36) for classes, which does not cover monthly expenses.

BTT has partnerships with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem, Metropolitan Manhattan Jack and Jill of America, Inc., The Nkenkaasu Royals and the Bergen County (NJ) Chapter of The Links, Inc.

Accomplishments
Two (2) boreholes (water wells) were created in two different schools in Ghana, that have no water or electricity, which resulted in providing water to 664 students at one school and 400+ at another. Their only source of water was from a stream, approximately 4 blocks away.
From our ICT and English Language training last year our Jr High school student received the highest score in ICT for the Offinso North and South region, and this year 3 of our female students received the highest scores in the region. Because we believe our students should receive hands-on practical skills, those that we work.
In addition to the work we do in Ghana, it is of upmost importance to replicate the commitment and dedication to those in the United States, namely, Harlem, where Ms. Simmons was born and raised. Offering scholarships alone and/or through partnerships, shall provide more members of the Harlem community to become global citizens through experiential learning via virtual and in-person pen pals, college university scholarships, mentorship as well as internships. These some of the goals and achievements that Brighter Tomorrows Today, Inc. wants to offer to the Harlem/US and Ghana communities.
